The opportunity
ReturnToWorkSA has a senior leadership opportunity arising from the planned retirement of the current Manager after a long and successful tenure with the organisation, creating an opportunity for an experienced leader to build on strong foundations and shape the next phase of the function.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Manager, Marketing and Communication plays a critical role in shaping how ReturnToWorkSA engages with South Australians, government, industry and key stakeholders. The role has whole‑of‑organisation accountability for marketing, communication, brand and media strategy, ensuring trusted, clear and consistent messaging that supports people impacted by work injury and protects the integrity of the Scheme.

Acting as a trusted adviser to the CEO, Executive Leadership Team and Board, the role leads a multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality internal and external communication, strengthen organisational reputation, and support complex issues, change initiatives and stakeholder engagement across the organisation.

The position
As Manager, Marketing and Communication, you will lead the development and implementation of ReturnToWorkSA’s marketing and communications framework and strategy, ensuring consistency, quality and governance across all channels.

You will provide strategic advice on media, communications and reputational risk, oversee digital communications and stakeholder engagement, and partner closely with senior leaders across the organisation to support key initiatives and organisational change. You will also lead and develop a high‑performing team and manage external vendors to deliver effective, contemporary communications outcomes.

This role will be a full-time fixed-term contract for 3 years with possible extensions.

About you
You are a confident and experienced senior leader with substantial expertise in marketing, communications and media management within complex organisations.

You bring:

  • demonstrated experience leading a marketing and communications function at a senior level
  • strong media and public relations capability, including issues and reputational risk management
  • experience advising CEOs, executive leadership teams and Boards
  • a strategic yet pragmatic approach, with strong judgement and governance focus
  • proven people leadership skills and the ability to build high‑performing teams.

You are calm under pressure, politically astute, and able to translate complex information into clear, trusted communication for diverse audiences.

Our services and those delivered by our claims agents are designed to provide early intervention support to workers and employers following a work injury to ensure the worker can recover and return to work as quickly as possible. In addition, we are the regulator of the Return to Work scheme and play the key role of protecting the integrity and fairness of the Scheme by monitoring and enforcing compliance with the Act and providing education and support about the health benefits of work.

Special requirements/conditions

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in marketing, communications, public relations or a related discipline

The salary range for this position is aligned with the Mercer CED Job Evaluation framework. The final offer will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications, skills and experience.
